Tracy Borah Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame Room
and Endowed Wrestling Scholarship

On Sept. 11, 1999, the Tracy Borah Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame Room came to fruition.

Named after the longtime Wrestling Coach and Athletic Director and located in Paul Wright Gum, the room is a place to celebrate this history and heritage of Western State College athletics. The Hall of Fame room also serves as a conference room, as well as the host site for all Mountaineer Athletic Association VIP functions and is the showpiece of Paul Wright Gym.

While the Tracy Borah Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame Room depicts the history of Mountaineer Athletics, the Lobby Trophy Cases give us a place to showcase the accomplishments of our contemporary and current student-athletes.

The campaign was also designed to endow a scholarship that would be given annually to a member of the Mountaineer wrestling team. The first recipient of that scholarship was senior Royce Johnson, who was the 2000 National Runner-up and two-time All-American at 157 pounds.

When Tracy Borah passed away in 1996, 61 individuals contributed $5,400 to a memorial wrestling scholarship established in his name. With the Legacy of a Legend campaign, over 60 additional individuals and businesses donated more than $118,000 (an average gift of $1,800) with a lead gift of $50,000 from Louie Carleo.

When this campaign began, WSC felt it needed to raise $100,000: $50,000 for the Hall of Fame Room/Lobby Trophy Cases and $50,000 to endow the memorial wrestling scholarship. We decided to upgrade at a total cost of $79,000 in order to reflect the prestige of the Hall. With the generosity of many we reached our original goal of $100,000 and were able to complete the construction phase of the room and lobby trophy cases.
